Check out this blurb I found on the web.
Anyone else hear anything about this ?
Ford of Europe has released a teaser image of what it considers to be one of its "most significant projects ever." Set to debut September 9th, and dubbed the "Visos," the image (seen above) and accompanying text released to press outlets today is woefully short on specifics, but early industry scuttlebutt peg the study as something that will likely see showroom floors. Many insiders believe it will revive the legendary "Capri" nameplate.
The Visos is, according to Ford, a four-place luxury car. The dimly-lit profile strongly suggests that the concept is in fact a coupe, but given various automakers penchant as of late for incorporating rear half doors in coupes (and the knowledge that Ford's own Mazda RX-8 appears to share a similar scale), nothing is assured. Previous speculation had a resurrected Capri riding on a modified Focus floorpan, which probably remains the most likely scenario - one which would likely scuttle notions of anything other than a true two-door coupe.
For its part, all Ford is willing to disclose is that the new shape is a nod to great models of the company's past, without being a heritage design. "The vehicle is very dramatic, drawing inspiration from some of the European Fords of the past… yet it isn't a retro design; rather aspects of what made those designs so emotional…" claims Chris Bird, Ford of Europe's Design Director. Sounds quite a bit like a new Capri to us, too.
