Trunk Mounted Battery
Trunk Mounted Battery
Hi, ive got a 85 Merkur that i moved the battery to the trunk. I disconnect the battery when im done with the car since i do not drive it much, But i would like to put a saftey feature in there like on normal cars. Should i use a Fusable link, breaker of some sort or ive also heard a way to put a starter solenoid there but i didnt get that concept. Any input on making the wiring safer so i can leave it pluged in would be great.
Thanks
Thanks

just get one of those Moroso kill switches or one like it, and make sure you wire the alt. into the switch or it wont kill it if the engine is running.

breaker and a fusable link will do the same thing........ only difference is you dont have to replace the breaker ..........

Dave, you don't want a breaker in the main feed line running from the battery to the front of the car. A starter will pull over 100 amps at times, plus any accessories. You can't get a reliable fuse or breaker to last with that kind of current. How exactly do you have it wired? From positive post on battery to firewall solenoid? What you could do is get a solenoid from a dodge (some dodge units are rated for continuous duty). Wire the solenoid between the positive battery post and the Ford solenoid at the front. Wire the Dodge solenoid up to the run position of the key. This will keep the big wire under the car from being hot unless you have the key in the run position. This will suck for sitting around playing the stereo since the whole car will be drawing current, but will be the safest way to keep from unintenionally welding on your car
