Default 5.0L ignition timing

how can i advance my timing a little? can i do it myself? i was told i needed a timing gun ... if i need a special tool, is there anyone or any place that does this kind of thing? if so ... how much would something like that cost?

Advance it to around 13-14 deg if you haven't touched it at all..
You should only need a timing gun (can pick one up for like $30 at any parts store, Sears) and a 1/2" wrench. Also, when I say 13-14 deg, that's initial (with the spout plug pulled out). Best bet would be to have someone show you.

do you think that fordspeed could do it for me? i guess ill give them a call 2morrow, im sure it couldnt cost too much or take too long at all. thanks strokd85

Will you show me how to set my base timing and perhaps retard it too?

I've never done it before, so it would be nice to have somebody show me how to do it the right way.

Becareful how far you advance it... You may run into OverHeating problems....

i doubt mine will, i run at about 140 degrees on average, even after a race, still lays low.

Speaking of...thanx for hookin mine up str8 dude. Loosing a couple degrees of timing felt pretty good. Still getting that "chattering" noise in the upper RPM's so atleast I wasn't pinging.
