Do you think this is a fair price?
Just doing this to spark up a conversation, I already know what to do to sell the car in a pinch
Anyways here's the story:
Usually I get tons of hits from my ads when I publish a car I'm selling to the most common sites.
This last one I haven't seen any calls really except for one mexican guy that offered me 50% less than what I had the vehicle listed for, which = disconnection on my end
.
Do you guys think I'm too high? I usually price stuff right to sell quick but this guy hasn't moved in 2 weeks, usually that's all the time it takes to sell a car I buy, fix, and resell.
98 Ford Ranger XL
115,000 miles
a/c
4cyl 5spd
clean exterior/interior (8/10) on both I would say.
I have it for $2,700 O.B.O.
What I normally do is take KBB, NADA, Edmunds, MSN Autos, and cars listed on autotrader/craigslist/ebay total it then average and I come out with a nice ballpark figure for what it will sell for. Which in this case was $2,700 ($2,792 to be exact).
I'll keep moving on to the next car, but I don't like them sitting too long, usually when there's no bites within the first week I'm sitting on the car for a month or so... bleh.

could be the economy.
I put my coupe up for sale. I have had so many trade offers it is amazing, from boats, to guns, to ninjas, to 4x4's etc etc. no cash offers. In another time a 5.0 coupe that looks this clean would command big money.
I also think it depends on condition of the ranger, my son sold his ranger for 800 but it wasn't too nice and was a few years older than yours.

Yeah this one is 2 owner no dents, one little quarter sized ding where a rock or another car door hit the passenger side door.. The newer 2.5 instead of ye olde 2.3 . Old dude owned it in Sarasota took care of it pretty well. When I bought it she just needed brakes, not because they were worn down, they dried out and cracked
.
I'll let her sit for another week and if she doesn't move I'll get a little more aggressive on advertising. I just dont like having 2 cars I'm selling at once, sometimes when I'm in a hurry I get confused as to which car the person calling is talking about lol.

I sold my '98 Ranger last month for $1800 and was a happy guy. That's exactly what I paid for it 3 years and 35,000 miles ago. It's paint wasn't quite as good as yours judging from the pics, but otherwise...

$1,800 seems too low if it's a truck and it has cold A/C IMO, that's a price that will move it quickly out the door however. Around 115k miles on yours too? As I stated, I know what to do if I NEED to sell it, but I thought that this price was in the ballpark in contrast with others on the market.
Maybe I'll get more hits after the Tampa Machinery Auction, always people thinking they are going to find gems at the county junk auction . That place is where the "bone row" of the dealerships go to die
.
This one is pretty nice, I mean it hasn't even had a ball on the back bumper.
Just was driven by some old dude. It had an old person ugly white non matching topper on it too when I bought it, It's still in the yard but the truck looks 100times better without it

Just had an offer for $1800-2000 from a dealer in Ruskin sight unseen. So it seems like the right market price, just not moving fast I guess.

It's a Ranger...Any Ranger that is newer than 1980, is just another wanna be truck that can't tow any real weight, on a consistent basis, and is basically useless. I would never pay anything over about $1000 for any decent looking Ranger WITH working A/C. Why? Because I don't care HOW old the previous owner was. OR how "responsible" he was with it. It's still a USED VEHICLE with over 100K on it. But that's just me. When I purchase a truck...I want it to be able to tow some decent weight...like a vehicle. If it can't do that, I don't want it and it isn't a "real" truck.
When I worked selling vehicles, though, we used to say "There's an ass for every seat". So it will sell....you will just have to be patient.

BTW, I have someone coming in tomorrow to buy her it looks like. This little truck took some more time than I'd like, to move!
On the comments in the previous post:
If it were a useless truck there would be no demand for it by consumers. No demand would mean it would not be made. Since it exists in the market, there is obviously a demand for it by enough people for Ford to bother making it
If practicality was the key to every vehicle, then there would not be fast cars, since you get half the mileage if your lucky and can only go as fast as the 4-banger next to you legally
Why is 100,000 miles this "golden barrier" ? Most vehicles built from 1995-up will run 200,000 + before having major issues (if they've been maintained). So what the first 10 years of it's life is gone, there's still AT LEAST another 10 years left. And with the average consumer owning a car for a little over 4 years I don't see a 100,000 mile car runing out of life before you get rid of it
.
The Rangers in my step-dad's fleet he maintains run to about 280,000 before they start having transmission issues. All 4cyl 5 speeds that carry vending machine parts and a/c compressors all over the state. When I say maintain, they do oil changes, tires, and brakes, anything more and they get rid of the vehicle
I saw a Ranger towing an F150 today. My 95 escort hatchback has towed a Buick Le Sabre before, 138 miles. Weight is superficial, just depends on how much fun you want to have towing!

Mine had a little more mileage on it but otherwise was fairly close to yours. I wanted to move it quickly so just asked what I had paid for it. Yeah, I realize I got a pretty good deal 3 years ago at $1800. I saw the ads for higher prices but that doesn't mean they sold for those prices. If you have the time, I'd stick with the price for a while. You never know who might walk in the door and just HAS to have that one.
