Default Tread depth then and now vs. tire life

My tires are 265/70/r17 on my truck.. pro comp all terrain M+S.

original tread depth is 16.5/32

Its been 3.5 years, tomorrow .. they are 50k mile tires. They were on the truck when I bought it almost 45k miles ago..

centers are 5-6/32 ... (1-2/32 on wear bars)

sides are 6-7/32

Who thinks I can squeeze another 10k out of these ? easily right ? I obviously need to air them down a tad , but I am happy with the wear pattern based on them not being the correct size for the truck.

I just need them to last me two trips. Tennessee in May, and then to California and back this fall.

I just watch for the center or outer wear bares. If they start to disappear,.. its time for new tires.

I've had a few bad experiences in the rain,.. so when I try new tires I always read reviews and compare their wet performance vs other tires.

For my truck the absolute best tires I have ever had are these damn General Grabber HTS tires. They arent the cheapest tire,.. at least not in my size 275/55 R20, but this is no BS,.. I bought the truck and it had newer Sumitomo HTR Sport H/P performance tires on it and they sucked ass. They were so bad I would have to drop my speed to below 30 in the rain. Complete slip and slide. I hated them. I still have them in my shed in case I need to mount a spare. The General HTS I have now have almost 65k miles on them,.. no BS at all. Perfect confidence on wet road. The ass end wont go sideways trying to pull away from a red light. Completely happy with them. And they are load rated which is hard to find in a 20 inch tire. With as much car hauling as I do I need to have load rated tires with a strong side wall.

Personally,.. if you have any doubt about the tires just replace them. Dont take a chance. Its not worth it.
I mean here is sort of an example along the same mentality.

I'm talking with a guy who says he down shifts and uses his clutch to slow the car down so he doesnt were out his brakes as fast. Now mind you, this guy has a $450 Centerforce clutch. How does anyone honestly believe grinding on a $450 clutch creating excessive wear on it saves you any money vs $40 or $60 brake pads? Not to mention the 2 hours it takes to change the clutch vs 20 mins to swap brake pads out? I didnt have the heart to burst his bubble. He was really proud and thought he was doing something significant. I thought he was an idiot.

Just replaced the Explorer tires ... Firestone Destination LE --- got 69k out of them! Yep, got them again.

Jeff I was adjusting air pressure to get this wear --- you may win with a modest deflate.

My father has Michellin LTX M+S on his truck. they are pricey in the size he needs, but he got 110,000 on them and they were about to rot off the rims. His still had as much tread as I do now. Not sure what I will go with when I do get new ones, but all suggestions are welcomed!

I did just have to replace my battery yesterday though , and it was factory original from 2005. first major item I have had to deal with and I've owned the truck over 3.5 years.

I also lowered my air pressure a bit today.. I'll check wear in June when I get back from Tennessee.
