Default St. Pete police shooting

Am I the only one who is doing the wtf about this deal where they tore down this entire house with all the owners belongings in it?

Raw footage of house demolition

I personally think this was the wrong way to handle this and now really hope that us taxpayers aren't going to be out 200k or so to replace the home and everything in it.

Things that stick out in this to me:
1. The woman involved told officers he was hiding in the attic and was armed.
2. After they knocked down enough of the house to find him and make sure he was dead they didn't stop and let the owners at least come get valuables (if they did it hasn't been reported that I could find) before smashing the whole thing down.
3. Was there no better way to do this? Why not gas him or use the flir and a sniper to shoot the hell out of him without going inside?
4. Why go in after an armed guy without body armor?

Hope we hold someone accountable.

I was listening to the tactical channel, when it all went down. They fired probably 20 or 30 CS canisters into the house and the attic and he still would not come out, they also utilized thermal camera imaging to locate him, this was all broadcasted over the tactical channel. There was sniper teams and police lieutenants ordering officers here and there and even swat sniper teams calling the location over the radio, it was pretty intense. As for not shooting him, I think it is pretty easy to say that mistakes were made on the LEO side, I am extremely upset that two more officers had to pay the ultimate price. But nevertheless the fugitive task force seemed like that they were kinda lakidasical (sp?) in the operation of retreiving the man.

I don't know what cs gas is but I was thinking something that wouldnt let him come out but rather make him sleep/die whatever. If the snipers knew where he was even roughly I'd rather have them pumping bullets into him and letting the heat signiture go dim then waste a bunch of money.

Just to note I am unhappy the cops died. I wouldnt even say a word if we spent 200k to rescue one of them. After the fact though seems dumb to me.

Mistakes were made....BIG time and they paid with thier life! Man in attic, possibly armed: I'm not sticking my head through the hole to verify whether or not he has a gun!!! They should of backed off, and covered the perimeter and called in the tac team at that point!

Back up a bit to the court system. 99% of the citizens dont realize how many people are realeased on ROR or very minimal bonds that should not be released! We (bond industry) has been fighting this for a while. Counties feels its cheaper to release people on admin ROR (no accountabilty) and people roam free- for free!! Counties dont want to house people because of the cost. This guy shouldnt have been out on the street unless he was able to post a large bond and able to pay for GPS monitoring

I think the problem with having snipers fire on him was the fact that the heat signature between him and the K9 officer probably could not be deciphered using the thermal imaging. I assume, I am not sure. The K9 officer was in the attic with him when he was shot and that is where he stayed. Again, I assume this is why and what happened. TBO had a really good write up on exactly what happened and how it went down.

And also CS gas is tear gas, extremely volatile, yet it can be defeated. Anyone who has been in the military knows, makes you sick as hell with snot, tears, and saliva spew from their orifices, the only thing missing is practically shitting yourself, which has happened when people start coughing and can not stop.

True story! NASTY shit!

Were mistakes made? Definatly.

One that was NOT a mistake....The guy is dead and no need for millions wasted on legal defense. I would rather pay out 200k for a new house and things inside, then to pay 1 million for legal defense and prosecution.
