Gun guys, get in here!
Recently my dad's shown some interest in possibly picking up a S&W 500... I did some youtubing to see what some other owners of the gun thought, and came across this video.
YouTube - 500 mag with 700 grain bullet
That thing's badass. In another video that was reviewing the weapon, the owner said something along the lines of "If you can fire the 5 shots in the chamber, and still want more, I give you serious props. This thing IS NOT fun to shoot over and over."
Badass gun!

Badass gun!
I guess if you were river fishing in Alaska with bears around... Other than that, what niche does the big .50 fill?

Actually, you hit the nail on the head. At Knight's I spoke to a guy behind the counter about the 500 they had there, and he said it's used for 'big game hunting' aka if you get attacked by a grizzly or polar bear... TBH I wouldn't want a gun like that. I love going to the range and emptying multiple boxes of ammo in my Ruger .357, without coming home after 5 shots with a sprained wrist and an achy arm!
What did a box of S&W 500 ammo cost and how any were in the box? 700 grains is a big, long bullet.
(I did shoot a DE in .50 AE It was not bad at all but it was gas operated obviously and heavy.)

I am sure the AE round is much different. It has to be more like a .500 short with a rebated rim.
Unless you roll your own, can't see how a person could justify shooting either.

Because of the price of the rounds? Yeah, I'm sure it costs a pretty penny just to empty out just a box of that stuff. Especially now, with the price of ammo going up.
