Its easy just start talking. It is the right thing to do as long as you can make a living for the both of you.
Weirdest conversation I had with an old gf's dad was when he was cleaning a gun to look like a tough guy. I was picking his daughter up for a date and I pulled my .25 out of my boot and asked him if he could clean it too. Needless to say, it didnt go over too well.
