i drove my friends 2006 gt
and i did not like it at all. everything is way to touchy. he had a short shifter on there that was a pain in the ass to use. and with how the thing pulls trying to go into gears is a pain in the ass. i feel kinda crushed now. but looks like i will stick to the 95 and older stangs. just thought i would share.

You should drive my vert. You have seen my Fox and the GT/CS. They are at both ends of the Mustang spectrum. I love the Fox for what it is and can do. I love the GT/CS because it is so "sane", I guess is the best word. Spend much time in one and you get hooked. (just like any mustang) I cant believe how good is is in the rain, even heavy ass rain. I have yet to have it act up. I guess all that weight helps that. It is a damn solid car, runs out decent and has potential. Bad side is things for it are so damn expensive.
Having owned everything from a 65 coupe, to several Foxes, a Saleen. The GT/CS is the best built one so far.
My favorite was my 92 GT though. Damn Foxes are addictive.

I test drove an 05 when they first came out and drove an 07 for a couple days. They are ok I guess. The 05 I drove didnt have very good throttle response,. and the shifter and clutch felt numb. The first thing I noticed when trying to get a little 'spirited' with the car was the weight vs the Fox and SN95 cars. Well balanced yes,.. the Mustang finally has a decent suspension under it. Only took Ford 45 years to figure it out,.. and even now its basically the same thing you find under the 3rd and 4th gen Fodies. The main thing I didnt like was the numbness and lack of feedback. The SN95 and NewEdge cars are very predictable. The Fox are lighter but very touchy and more prone to get loose on you and require constant attention when driving aggressively on a road course,.. vs the SN95 and New Edge where they seem to talk to you with easily understood feedback,.. you can easily feel the ragged edge,.. and even when you exceed it,.. unlike the fox,.. they are more forgiving and will more easily return straight,.. where when I had my old 89,. I cant even begin to count how many times I spun out in that car. To this day I look back and am amazed I never hit anything or anyone. The main down side to the Fox and SN95 cars are how light they are in the ass end. But,. I suppose thats why its so easy to throw those cars around,.. they just follow the front,.. or add some gas and easily kick the ass end out.
To the S197's credit,.. I never spun it out,. but I think thats because I never fully found the ragged edge because I was still struggling to learn the car. 2 days was not enough time.

A lot of the numbness in response comes from the weight of the car. You feel the torque in a light weight car. Ask any Honda owner. Most think they have racecars when reality its just the power to weight torque. I noticed this when I had my GN, which is faily heavy.
The S197's are known for their extremely good N/V/H ratings which are noise, vibration, and harshness for those of you that dont know. Not many I imagine. But thats besides the point. I drove a 2006 GT when I was still in my 86 and noticed that they feel more like a luxury car than a sports car. Thats not a bad thing necessarily but it does take some getting used to going from a fox to that. Even going from my 86 to my 2002 took some getting used to. The 4.6's are great motors but they act totally different from the older windsor motors and as far as the suspension on the S197's go, I agree with Hurst. Totally blows the older 4-link out of the water.

im with you on the luxury thing. to me the steering and the throtle felt like awas driving our old crown vic. i know that dont sound right but the steering was really touchy in that thing, you try to get on it and just move the thing an inch and off you go. and yeah the suspension , f-ing a that another story though. i did love how it did not have all to much bodie lean and roll. and sure you did not have to worrie about the ass end comeing out from underneith ya but trying to keep the car straight afterstomping on it is still kinda hard. cuz right as soon as i shifted my weight to shift gears, that little bit of movement on the steering wheel sends you to the other side of the road. that and i dont know if it was just his mustang but the thing does not like low rpm's at all.
