I had a very similar setup on an 86. Same carb and similar HEI.

Not smoking fast,.. but very reliable and ran excellent on a motor that had over 200k on it. Shaun bought the motor from me. No idea what he did with it.

This was installed this way, look at the wire for the electric choke cut to length and tie wrapped
