Can anybody tell me if there were any nazi war criminals tried here in the continental U.S.

I know that the majority of them were judged in Nuremburg, Germany but have not gone any farther than that in my search.

Other than a few escaping to the US and other countries, us using some for spies, and the rest being still at large, was there any that were tried in a federal US court?

There is a reason for me asking but I don't want to say anything yet. got to get my facts straight before opening my mouth about anything....

im pretty sure that any that were not tried at Nuremburg, died of natural causes in south america, protected by the U.S. Government, or excaped to Russia, were never found. If any were caught in the U.S. im sure that if they would have been any use we would have put protected them just alike all the others

I'm pretty foggy on this however several were located in South America in the 70-80s and were basically kidnapped by the Israelis and returned to Israel for trial, as I recall, it caused quite an international flap.
The US returned one also in the 80's.
You can't screw with Mossad, back in 73 the Palestinians killed a bunch of Israeli athletes ingermany at the Olympics. They hunted down every single one except one guy who can't even leave his house somewhere in arab-land.

there's some light reading for you. In the days following WW2 many German scientist came to the US and were involved in the space race along witht he development of intercontinental ballistic misslies, which Germany had by the end of the war. It was imperative that these scientist (such as Werner Von Braun) be protected here, as the Soviets were also developing ICBMs as well. Near the end of the war Germany had no qualms about using slave labor to build their facilities, how much the scinetists actually knew, or could prevent is up for speculation. In many cases these scientists, some Jewish, were also forced to work for the German military as well.

BTW, the history channel had a documentary on what would have happened if WW2 extended into 1946, Germany would've further developed the ICBM, nuclear warheads, an aircraft that could reach the eastern seaboard, further espanded it's jet fighter program, plus developed a submarine that could stay at sea for over 6 months..all kinda scary huh?

 

If the U.S. had waited another month to get into the action in Europe it would be a very different area right now

very cool, thanks much for the history. I know all this though, I am fairly knowledgeable about all the fall out of the war. History really intriques me, I just wanted to get my fellow Ford peps knowledge about the nazi war criminals because of what I heard obama say in a speech at a rally. This guy is playing on the ignorance of most Americans, he wants the gitmo detainees to have a day in federal court. I STRONGLY disaree with this, he referenced this situation to the nazi war crime trials saying we gave them the same consideration. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something to the best of my knowledge. Sure they got a day in court but NOT FEDERAL! He wants to bring these guys over here on US soil and give them the same treatment as a US criminal.
Please think this through, this should not happen, there is a real good reason why they are being held in gitmo.

Well, actually the federal courts have already decided that the GITMO goons can have their day in federal court, personally, I think the US court system should apply to US citizens only, not bad guys, not illegals, US citizens.
Good job checking up on Obama though.
