Thumbs up Favorite "memory of dad", Father's Day thread

Happy Father's Day

Just thought this would be cool >>> post your favorite memory of you and your dad. If your pop is still with us, give him a call and tell him .

My pop was always working, teaching or boosting his career --- Lead meteorologist with NOAA and math professor at U of M and FSU. We seemed not to do alot and once while vacationing ... he drove us off to the coolest golf course and played a round. Just us guys, none of my sisters or his colleagues --- awesome day!!!

i hate this time of the year... makes me wonder what I missed out on... my father has always been around, but he royally sucked at being a dad...
Kinda makes me wonder what I should have done differently...
hopefully everyone else has a wonderful father's day

My dad always liked to tinker on cars and he would load us up and take us to a salvage yard to get a part here and there on saturdays. It was fun and I suppose he had a big part to play in me "being" into cars. My uncle helped alot but Dad had several '55s some '56s and a '57 Chevy, that I can remember he use to play around with as well. Good times.

I had a pretty rough childhood with my dad, so good memories are hard to think of. Actually, I can think of one. We had a crushed shell driveway, and I liked to go out there and find nice shells and save them. I had a nice little collection going. One day, dad surprised me - wouldn't tell me where we were going - drove all the way down to Ft. Myers or something to The Shell Factory. I was in heaven. Okay, I was like 7 years old. It was a big deal. lol

< father fails at life.

But the one that comes to mind, he used to drive me in his baby blue 69 GTO every Sunday morning to this local deli in Jersey to get bagels. Haven't heard from him in months.

I called this morning to say happy fathers day. (not sure why) Didn't even really get anything out he just said "I have people in the store I have to call you back"

There's a start ... let's see how many will contribute.

Car rides, twisting wrenches and my surprise day with dad.

Sea shells ... cool, kiddo.

think my favorite memory was when my dad got kicked out of a baseball game I was pitching in. He was in the stands arguing the umpires call(which the umpire later said he was wrong), and the ump didn't want to hear it...so he tossed him out. I wasn't embarrased at all...it was hilarious to watch

there was the one where he violently beat my mother and threatened to shoot her (gun in her mouth).
alcoholism for the loss. didn't see him for another 35 years.

however, my step dad drag raced, ran scca, was an official at Lakeland International speedway in the 70's (12th birtday with don garlits) and ran circle track for almost 20 years, got me interested in cars, taught me to drive, shift, and launch.
also forced me to learn how to pull tranny's and change motors!!

For what it's worth, it's my step dad that I am refering to. He's more of a Dad to me than my biological dad could ever dream of.
