Its very similar to how it works now really, just we want a system thats a little more fair, and reliable.. the current system manufactures rep out of thin air everyime someone reps someone else.. its not a true representation of rep.

One of the things I like about the one we are looking at is referals. Let me give you an example.

Lets say, for a referal you get 10 rep. You refer 3 people. Awesome.. 30 rep... woa.. not so fast. it checks to see if those 3 are active..ie posting, or visting the site. the more active they are.. the more their 10 rep counts. So lets assume 2 are active one is not.. well that rep affects how much you get from other things now. So previously you might have gotten 5 rep from answering a question in your tech forum.. now you get a bonus 2 rep because you have 2 active referals for a total of 7.

Major over simpflication.. and its not set in stone.

bottom line we wont be all starting at 0, time servers counts.. posts done up till its put in count.. but rep "traded" probably wont. (or if it does, it will be a flat value).

I am hoping we get a system where we dont have to "throttle" rep to 2 or 5 times a day and spread it around etc.. a fairer system that allows you to rep people who deserve it..

so now it seems people with mad tight 2001 join dates and 30,000 posts will have all the rep. i mean, isnt that hypocritical? restarting all the rep and setting to where the post whores get more? i dont understand how people get so butthurt over the rep thing, its something fun to do on this site and ive never honestly seen any forum use their rep system correctly anyway.

you've got no idea what your talking about, you haven't even seen the system.

Can you seriously sit there and tell me that the current Rep system works ?

The main reason the current rep system does not work is because it is wielded as a weapon by alot of people. Do you have any idea how many issues I deal with on a weekly basis because someone smacked some user with -100K rep, putting them 95K into the red and then put some stupid insult in the comments ? thats not what its for.

I think the reason your annoyed at the changes dude is because your a poster child for the kind of user who doesn't contribute hardly anything to the site and would end up with next to nothing under a system that rewarded contributors and positive influences. In a forum full of contributors (the ford forum) your an anomaly and a pain in the ass.

Rep is broken, it needs to be fixed.

Hey Zate, I have a more important question for you?

Who fucking cares?

Don't you think your time could better be spent increasing the dependability of the TR interface so it doesn't give errors and crash and hang all the time? Or coding in a nice little spellchecker feature? Or doing one of a zillion other things?

You all preach about how rep is BS then you take the time to rewrite the code, and guess what? Rep is STILL BS. I don't get it.

yes it does.

not much more than a year ago. ODB and I had like 15k, we were the shit .

we got that "rep" for (more or less) answering tech questions and helping others....I also hope the new system isn't corrupt.

its a little bit away. I got a number of other things to get done before that. Namely a site redesign.

Also we are adding :

Some new rules. (or just formalizing old established ones)
A consistent moderation system.
A Tech Wiki.
Revamp of the Garage (Car Related Profile system sort of)
Revised FAQ
Revised Rep System
Business Directory
Shuffling of the forums
Revised Classifieds

Its alot. Some requires new code, some doesnt. No hard and fast time frame, but sooner rather than later for the Rep.

that much is obvious by your reaction.

We haven't taken any time to rewrite any code related to Rep. So I am not sure how rep is STILL BS. Its the same code as it ever was, its the code that came with the software we use, we didn't write shit. It wasn't designed to be used on large sites.

When you pay us a subscription fee you can take that attitude, until then enjoy the free site we bust our asses putting into production around our families and our real jobs and have a nice long drink of shut the fuck up.

Seriously though, I made a couple of changes yesterday to move about 1.2Gb of data out of the DB, and Nikon will be making some more changes real soon. TR and Tf are large, we also do a crap load of things with vbulletin that no one else has done and that stuff is tricky to troubleshoot and track down whats causing issues. Generally its slow SQL queries and we fix em as we find em. Part of the changes I am doing is updating the diff parts of the site to their latest code base. Thats tricky though because we have so much custom shit done. The new style alone is hundreds of hours of manual template changes to get all the SEO and Google stuff back in it.

Well, since you got onto Jordan T about not contributing, and I've been accused of the same thing in no uncertain terms before, let me make a recommendation that works WONDERS when dealing with all the ridculous div tags and nested tables TR probably uses (I've never had the courage to "View Source" on this site, but I can imagine) - I'm sure like every good web geek you use Firefox? Download the Web Developer Toolbar. It is AMAZING. The tools are real timesavers - they make my job a helluva lot easier.

If you like it, think of my request the next time you come across a code template for a spellchecker.

I have that, and many other tools. My day job is web/application security.. i stare at source code all day and work out how to break it.

Thats got nothing to do with the issues TR has. A spell checker isn't something we will do right now.

you obviously spend too much time in pit road, TF and not in nissan tech, GCC, drifting ect. i contribute plenty to the site.

also, im friends with some of the ford guys and this is the "ford lounge" so how exactly am i supposed to be on topic anyway? its a lounge, it might as well be pit road #2.

rep doesnt matter that much anyway, if its gone its gone, big woop. i do understand you guys not wanting some newer guy to get slammed with 30k in neg rep right off the bat so im with you there.
