Arrow Dinner At The Grand Floridian + Valet Service = $150 Cab Ride !

Here is another little story / blog for you.

So last night we go up to the Grand Floridian Resort @ Disney for a little surprise dinner with friends and family for my wifes birthday. This is the white plantation looking resort on the main lake.

I drop the family off at the front so I can go park the car in self parking because I am not a fan of valet services. After driving out and discovering the self parking is across the street which will be to far to walk after dinner if it is raining I come back and drop the car at the valet service.

We had a great dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. So it is about two hours later and it is time to go. We get out to the front of the resort and my car is sitting on the drive ! I was like damn that is service for you, they must track when you are leaving, yada, yada or we just got lucky and they left it there.

Anyhow I go over to the valet desk and hand him my claim ticket. The guy hands me my key and my money back and says no charge. He also says there was a little problem with your car, immediately I think they must of hit it or someone else hit it. Not the case, the problem was they could not get the car to start. Not start as in it would just turn over and no fuel (2003 M45 ). I have had zero issues with the car and the battery was not dead but is now acting as if it is.

Back to the valet desk I go can I proceed to ask why are my interior lights dim, I think it is not starting because someone must have now killed the battery. The guy manages to tell me well we have been trying to start it for 30 minutes, maybe that is why the battery is dead ! Who the fuck tries to start a newer car for 30 minutes ? ! So we have some words about this. Keep in mind this is Disney not to mention one of their best resorts so they are trying to keep me calm.

Now I am pissed, I go back to the car and Alan realizes my security light is on solid, so it has been tripped somehow. I get out the owners manual and yes, someone has tripped it via putting the wrong key in the ignition or putting a metal key in it ( my key is a plastic security key with no metal on it and starts via computer chip.). I then try to reset the security system via the owners manual directions, it is not going.

The hotel manager ( younger guy surprisingly) comes out and is trying to help. Keep in mind my children, wife, mother, Alan, and his wife are all sitting out on the drive during all of this for about 30 minutes. Thankfully Alan and his wife met us there so my family goes back with Alan's wife and Alan stays with me while we try to figure this out ( big props to him ).

Now the hotel manager ( in suit and tie no less ) is trying to restart the system and pacify me at the same time because it is pretty apparent I am pissed off now. I was not making a sense by any means but I was not being to kind about the situation considering I brought in a perfectly running car, spent a lot on dinner, my family is being inconvenienced, etc..

It is now about a hour or so later and it is obvious the car is not going anywhere and it is approaching 8:00 p.m.. The hotel manager is suggesting several things he can do all of which I am refusing. One being leaving the car there till Tuesday, they tow it to Infiniti in Orlando, send me to get a rental car so we can go home. No, sorry James this is not how it is going to happen.

Trying to keep a long story a little shorter here, Alan and I ended up getting some free drinks at the bar, my money back from valet , my car flat bedded home ( 82 miles), and get this, a cab ride from Disney back home in Brandon ! The cab was their idea but it made sense since we had been drinking at the bar for a hour or so.

We got home about 11:45 via the cabby that did 85 the whole way, my car showed up on the flat bed about 10 minutes later, and the cabby told me he was given $150 cash to run us home.

I have to hand it to Disney for coming through on their customer service and making the whole thing right once it was said and done. Best thing is they said not to use my extended warranty to fix anything. have it fixed and send them the bill via some paperwork they gave me !

Cool deal. I would have been too pissed to be coherent.

Both my mother and wife commented to me that I was unusually cool during the ordeal, they were waiting for me to blow a gasket.

The shitty part of the evening now that I have thought about it was that by the time I got home my wife was asleep so I did not get to have nice ' thank you ' for the evening.

Missing something here - Why would you be so mad that Your car wouldn''t start for them? Isn't this just a simple case of a bad battery or similar?

Bummer but Disney will always stand up and do the right thing.
