Your car looks good.
I have wondered what a person goes through to put in a backup camera.
Finding a hot wire going to the back might be the easy part.
What happens after that?

I'm not sure. A previous owner actually wired a backup camera in, but when they sold the car they just pulled the camera and kept the wiring. As I was wiring mine, I found their leads, but they're unusuable; the power cable was left exposed to the elements and is corroded beyond use. I only mounted it and fed the signal wires into the cabin; I'll have to trace the wiring down so I can replace it. In addition to power, I believe the head unit needs to know when the car is in reverse, and there was a splice on the OE light cable. But I need to reserach how this would be done properly, then untangle the mass of loose wires that were run in here and find my appropriate connections.

Ok. then it sounds like it uses the backup light for power.
Sometimes a corroded wire can be stripped back and fresh wire can be spliced in.
What do the wires look like on the cabin side? or did you run your wires the whole distance?

I don't see any reason to try to recycle the existing power lead for the camera; I have a replacement that came with it. I only fed the connections in from the rear so they would be inside the car;, I didn't run any cable yet. Whoever owned the car before me "ran cable", if we can accept the definition of that to be "threw a bunch of shit behind a plastic panel and not hook anything up." My job will be to figure out why I have four unconnected cables running to the back of the car, then routing things properly and basically cleaning up that mess. Afterwards, I'll use what's usable and get rid of the rest. I've already stripped half the interior out of the car for this and dynamat; I tend to do multiple jobs at once when they share a laborious procedure, so this job was the taillights, a speaker diagnosis, wire the backup camera and dynamat, because all those jobs involved removing interior panels.

I think you are doing it right with the multiple jobs idea.

People can now see what it really takes to clean up something started by someone else.

Thanks for keeping us up on things.
