Im on GTE DSL and I can unhook my modem AND - my IP stays the same. I can use winipcfg relase renew AND - my IP stays the same. I can release it ALL NIGHT and when I renew - My IP stayes the same. Dont ask me to explain. Im a hardware person myself...I just know what I have found. I have to REQUEST a new IP to get one...

DHCP servers save your MAC address of the network card you are using... Even if your IP address has been released by the DHCP server you will still claim it again if no one else has. DHCP servers will do everything in thier power to return the same address to you. They save those MAC IDs
Thats why if you swap network cards on your computer your IP will always change. Becuase the new network card has a different MAC.
