Default Newb and ? for Engineers or Professionals

About to graduate from college in engineering and have a pretty good offer from a firm in Clearwater. Trouble is, they aren't spotting me any vacation time my first year. The principle says thats pretty common in Florida, but I know of another firm that gives 2 weeks.

Any input would be appreciated.

Oh yeah, I drive a 96 Ranger with 88hp stock, but I'm waiting on a VTEC kit and naaaaauuuuuussss till after the diploma.

From all the engineering type jobs I have held(I would probably say 7 or I have never once been offered vacation time the first year working there. If a job did offer you vacation pay the first year then that is great and I would look towards that. Usually they just offer full benifits after your 90day probational period. Then after your first year you start with 2 weeks payed vacation and like 8-10 sick days.

Welcome.

What type of engineering job is this? Big company, field or office work?

Actually I have no idea who this guy is. But one thing I have noticed engineers have in common. Being uber bored at work and a good sence of humor.

Architectural Engineering, mechanical and electrical design for buildings. It’s a smaller firm but I really enjoy the people and the potential (ie make partner quick) is great. Mostly design/ design supervision with lots of field work. Not very exciting, but it will pay the bills.

Thanks for the replies, even 4door.
