On "My Car Story" we're in West Suburbs of Chicago on 7-25-15. We're looking at a 1912 Mercer Raceabout Series 35-J. The car's Owner is Herb Lederer. He’s had the car since 1992. He shares details of the cars history, how to start the car, and we take a ride.

"Fireball" Hal Everett signed up for it. Tuning up an old mercer sounds simple enough until you factor in the lack of an electric starter. We edited out the six zillion crank attempts (and words that went with it) so you guys could see the maiden voyage of this very cool old car. The 1911 Mercer toy Tonneau made its way to Amelia Island in 2011 and was a crowd pleaser on the concours. Thanks to Fireball for getting her in good running condition.

I think I could make a pretty good electric starter that would plug into the same hole as the crank.....
Indy Cars had them for years.
