Tampa Technique is a documentary project about Central Avenue, which was the historically black business district in Tampa, Florida. This story explores the racial history of Tampa with Central Avenue as the guiding force to discuss its racialized construction and destruction through various social forces (segregation, sit-ins, civil disturbance, urban

renewal/removal). Where we need your help is covering copyright costs. Photographs from the Tampa Tribune, Tampa Bay Times, and the Florida Sentinel-Bulletin as well as archival video from WTVT. These copyright costs reach thousands of dollars but can provide insightful images of black life in Tampa, primarily during the 1950s and 1960s.

Ahead of the 130th birthday of the city of Tampa this weekend, more than 30,000 forgotten photos from the city's archives are being digitized and uploaded online.

This collection of OLD FLORIDA PICTURES (circa 1880-1902) captures the time and spirit when people and cargo were transported via our many rivers in Florida and the railroads. Before roads came to Florida, the rivers were king. Photography was not for poor people back then so many of these scenes reflect what life was like then for the well to do. The camera work, sharpness and focus reflected in these scenes was surprising to me. Enjoy this trip back into Florida's lovely past.

In 1990 several youths managed to get to the top of the Sulphur Springs water tower. Too bad the inside stairs were in such terrible condition they couldn't get back down. Tampa Police Aviation had to supply a 'down' elevator for the youths.

Tampa florida haunted water tower was the city source of water until the great depression. This tower was a place where locals would go to the top and jump to their death from all the drama and suffering from the depression in 1927. It is rumored that all of the people that did jump, their souls are still in the tower til this day!!!

The Gasparilla parade is part of the Gasparilla Pirate Festival, an annual celebration held in the city of Tampa, Florida, celebrating the apocryphal legend of José Gaspar since 1904.
