How did he initiate with so little steering angle? Look at :

starting at about 25s. He hardly turned the wheel to the right, and it turned sideways immediately. ?? My car(s) don't do that...

Clutch kick, Slight feint, plenty of powa = Not much of a weight transfer initiation.

There was no feint. That's the thing.

pretty sure he used ebrake and then throttle. could be tire setup (too low grip in rear or worn out? I know he was shooting sparks a bit during one set) that allowed it to step out so easily- i mean he did a slow spin when trying to scrub speed so that makes me think he was working with ice skates.

That's kind of what I was wondering. Makes sense to set up a drift car with an oversteer tendency - either less tire grip in the rear, or a whole lot more spring rate in the rear. At which point, a steer input would turn it sideways easily.

Only problem is, it would be unstable in a straight line leading up to the intiation point.

Most of the drift cars I see have wider rear tires, which tells me that not many of them are set up this way?

its only good like that when you are learning. when you get better, you learn aggression. you cant be aggressive and throw a car into a turn with shitty 215s out back. grip is important for contol
