If you are considering getting a cage, I would consider all venue requirements...not just desoto's. Some don't allow bolt in cages.... some have to be 6 point weld in only, etc. I'm just saying if you are going to put money into a cage...I would make it a good one.

Do any of the caged guys want to comment?

^ yea its a good idea. its kind of like throwing away money if its not good enough all over. nothing wrong with having to save money i guess, and not everyone wants to goto FD, but at least for local stuff should have:

halo (top surrounding square/roof)
down bars to back shock towers
cross bar between towers
A/B pillar down bars
Diagonal from top driver side to bottom passenger side.
straight across "harness bar" behind seats. at or just below shoulder level.
door bars in a X or a parrallel configuration.

thats pretty standard, make sure the tube diameter and wall thickness is up to standards too.

*quality welds/penetration and all that need to be there too.

Right.. i figured a legit drag cage would work. I was just curious. I have a buddy who wants to get a cage for drifting and i told him a drag cage would be adequate. Just making sure i was correct

I was reading this while looking at every piece of my cage which is sitting next to me, and thinking: check, check, check, check, check. Basically, you described ur old cage to the finest detail haha

yea my old and my new, same idea, some rules have changed for FD legality since the old cage- hell, even my new cage is again illegal for FD.

only thing i didnt mention before is both times ive had my dash bar replaced with rollcage tubing.

**if you plan to run ProAm, keep a dash/cut out holes for cage to pass though. Most rulebooks require a OEM style dash to remain.

Only thing different about drag cages is they usually don't have a diagonal in the main hoop, and they have a one piece harness bar. So you just have to change that stuff. You can usually do that with what is included in the kit.
