seemed as if no one out there was on their game, everyone spinning out, hitting walls, under steering...
it was cool having FD/D1 drivers in the beginner class, made it AWESOME for the new guys to get out there and compete and pros and pro-ams....
next event should be broken up in to three groups
beginner - under 10 events exp
intermediate - 10-20 events
advanced - 20+ events (and no pussys backing out cause they're afraid of the wall)
that way, for guys like me, who have to pay around $300- $350 to trailer 3.5 hours with under ten events under my belt, can compete with people in my "class", and not waste a shit ton of money, for 6-7 runs, that are under a minute...
still had a blast tho, and on my last "qualifying" run laid down a 100ft wall of smoke so think you could spread it on a ham sandwich... and my last open practice run at the end of the night was pretty cool..... but that wall of smoke ALMOST made it all worth it...
You in the black 240 with gold wheels upfront? Cause I have pictures of that if you are.
I had a good time out there. Wasn't really that cold out, I was the one wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

the largest problem we have with desoto is the pavement quality and infield. I wish so badly that they would pave their infield and that way we could get quality drifting going on, and start building some solid drivers. good pavement / full pavement infield = weekly events, at least monthly.
and the less cars that wreck, the less that get totalled = more drivers who get through their noob stage and have a chance to learn how to drive properly.

second, we cannot make a competition for 'new guys' to win. Thats part of competition, it rewards those with more skill/seat time/and continued dedication.
You can't expect to come out and win when you haven't put in the same time other people have. If we made little tiny specific categories it would still be impossible to 'police' the whos in what rank and who cares.
At this point, nearly everyone out there should be more concerned with what they need to work on or what they need to learn rather than winning a category designed for 'unskilled driving'.
I'm not ripping anyone and especially not BZ since you have improved very rapidly but its part of the game to suck when you start and get better with continued practice. Its silly to give the new drivers to give them a baby judging system so they can get false sense of accomplishment. Everyone has gotta put in their time to be recognized for their driving.
Took me 4 years of hard work to get where I am today and 125% of my money (ya, I'm actually in debt), and I still only think about what I need to do to get better.
Drive more events, at different venues, with each their own challenges, and become a well rounded driver. I look forward to new tracks and wonder if and how I will conquer them.
Brett drove really awesome last night and he has been so close to doing that for like 2 years now, no one last night should feel cheated by that.
*That being said I wish I could just spend time riding with people to help correct the little mistakes that are adding up to them making big mistakes.

i just felt it was kinda off that the "advanced" guys were running the same layout at the "beginners" and that some classifications were off...
it was interesting driving on like 10 different surfaces on one track though LOL...
oh yeah, and the whole "no ride alongs" thing was bullshit IMHO, tech inspec was warranted, but no ride alongs? i mean, i know they were going for an "Legit" competition, and it was pretty cool, but there was no "set" classes, no sanctioned bodies... it was just a bunch of people from the area, having a shoot out, and at desoto even, the most lax track ever... hell normally, i just throw the helmet on my head strapless and ride out and the flag man could care less LOL!
other than that tho, i think overall, besides some wall work, and disorganization, it went relatively well!
having guys like bill, box, flemming ride along is a solid idea. If people were out there to seriously compete, your not having enough fun. Furthermore, they should have stepped up and did the advance course if they wanted to be seperated from those of us with less skill/experience.
More importantly, who has some photos of the hachi? While there is lots to improve in my sliding, rocking a corolla in a sea of 240's I would hope someone at least took a few photos. send me a message if anyone has some.
