so having the factory 4-speed do you think it would be best to upgrade to the 5-speed or do you think it should be good? a buddy of mines told me that the 4-spped is pretty weak and holds the pickup back
just do it, 1st 5 things i would do:
1) make sure its running in tip top shape, change all fluids, belts, tune up, shit like that
2) add more steering angle. this shold be pretty easy cause i have an 81 celica with the same basic steering and added a shit ton more angle just by removing the steering stops. one down side is that you have like a zillion turns lock to lock, so you will be busy as shit behind the wheel unless you put in a steering quickener.
3) lower the truck and get really good shocks, perferably adjustable
4) get an lsd, i would say weld it, but since you have a toyota truck everyone makes an aftermarket locker for the rear end for offroading. they are cheap and should last forever.
5) make sure you have a good clutch and good radiator. the cooling system and the clutch take a beating, so make sure they are in good shape. the 5spd w58's are everywhere and cheap, so i would swap one of those in.

hey guys thanks for all the possitive feedback i apreciate it .... so what should i spend my first 300 bucks on??? l.s.d., or clutch, or lowering spindles and leave springs???? i have brand new tires i rebuilt my engine about 7,000 miles ago and the clutch has about the same but slips when i beat on it
thats all opinion now... suspension is essential but if ur shit is slippin. and lsd would be good for nuthin if you have a clutch thats not grabbing.
New clutch
weld ur diff. fuck it. open diffs are cheap for your truck right?
Save pennies
spend on suspension.
and if u spend all your money, smooch off ut's food. or maruchan for a month or 2
dont forget school bullshit too, not to be a father and shit.

+1 on the lsd being useless with a slipping clutch, drifting (trying) with a slipping clutch is retarded.
Your gonna want some stiffer leafs in the rear, for sure, my truck is wayyy to soft.
I would stay away from spindles if you don't have much money, you wanna drift, not ride nicely, so get some stiffer drop springs, and if you wanna go lower, then get the spindles.
Hachi bill has a great point, upgrade that cooling system!
Also, if i can get sideways with 103hp (scratch that, less sense my secondary wasn't working) in my truck, don't worry about power.
Brand new tires ehh? What size? A large sidewall will roll, making the truck unpredictable and have less grip.
