Default opinions on federal ss595s?

I am currently looking for front tires for my car.

I am running 17x9" cobras all around, 205/50/17 tires.

I found some azenis rt615s in 215/45/17, but I like my tires the way they are.

So I looked and found some ss595s in 205/50, I have these tires in a different size on some other wheels. I like them, but really haven't put them to any use. Other than 60mph long turns.

So what is your opinions on the ss595 for grip, on the front?

they have great grip and wear, and I personally think they are overall good tires. the nexens I run, n3000, seem equal in performance and also are low cost. You should run 215 or 225s (some people go even larger) in the front. It will allow for better response and control when you get faster and transition harder.

Jason, I don't want to run bigger tires up front. And I'm really not going to be drifting the car all that much. I will probably keep another set of wheels with bigger tires on them for track days.

How do you like the nexens, I have heard some bad stuff about them. Tread separation and stuff.

If you're going to run 205, you need all the grip in the cap you can get. I'd reccommend RT615s over the SS595s, but the 595s ought to do you great in the rear.

Also keep in mind that a 205 Azenis is comparable to a 215 Federal when it comes to actual contact patch.

Mike, I cant find an rt615 in a 205/50. Smallest size I found was a 215/45, and I don't want to go up that high.

I might end up going with 205/50/17 ss595s for DD and run some 215/45/17 rt615s on track wheels. But I need more parts before then, so I will stick with a 205/50/17 ss595 for now either way =).

Well, the only time I have had tread separation was in the rear after a 15min non stop demo. I super super heated the tire and it came apart a little early. My fronts are wearing very nicely and I have not noticed any chunks/seperation there. The rears, when used normally, wear very well and smoothly.

**I used federals in the rear and loved them, harri used them and said they seperated on him. Incorrect tire pressure mixed with the power of the car can make any tire seperate like that I think.

Well I was hearing about it on front tires of RWD cars. For rear tires I will use garbage take offs in 205/50/17, because my rear alignment specs are way off. And I run through tires like you wouldn't believe (my car has no factory camber adjustment, so I have to wait till I can pay someone ~400 to make custom RUCA's)

I have feddys on my works on the front of my car now, but they are 205/40/17 and I want a little more sidewall. And I am trying to sell my works anyway.

from your response it seems like you missed where I did mention that my fronts are wearing great. No problems there.

Lol, no I caught that. I was just re-iterating what I was told. I may try out some nexen's, depending on what kind of price I can get them for.
