when did they switch to 8? or maybe i just mixed up irl with f1. i think irl still uses 10's. i also didnt think f1 used 5spd either.

The 2.4L V8's were new for 2006. EXCEPT, the Scuderia Torro Rosso team ran the V10 w/restrictor plates this year.
Most of the 2006 F1 grid ran 7 speed (+1 reverse gear) sequential boxes. 2 or 3 of the smaller teams still ran the older 6 speed units.
