Smile how did you start drifting?

you guys will prob flame this thread like you did my "teams" thread at first. but i dont care. anyway.

just describe how you first got into drifting. the first car you slid. how long ago it was. and what you did to gradually get better at it.

me first. i first got into it from a friend at school. around late 03. he drove a beat ass 280zx. we would go to open parking lots in the middle of no where and just "fishtail" and "power slide". one time we when went out to a parking lot, there were a few guys in 240's. "bandwagon". they referred to it as drifting. so i started lookin it up on the internet. i found some vids of d1gp. i was shocked to see that. i later moved to florida, found a ae86 (the one vangs brother owns now). it didnt buy it to drift it, but after a while i couldnt help myself and i proceeded to beat the living mother fucking shit out of it. now i have no car and im poor.

in about 2001 I lived in seattle. Had a lot of jpn friends and a few of them showed me in games (racing jam especially) and talked about it a lot. The rest is history.

I didn't actually start learning to drift until about late 2003. It was in my 2nd ae86 (the silver one) that I started.

Drifting is fun so I'm still into it.

Early of 2004
Team15, which includes Vang (sidehappyside), Charlie(SlidingRMS13), Tyler (Pineapple), and David (S14Monkey). These guys would go to my shop and fuck around with their car. Vang and Charlie were the 1st one to get a S13. Vang had the Maroon S13 coupe, and Charlie had the S13 hatch automatic.
1st guy out of Team15 to EVER pull out a real drift was Charlie. He weight shifted, then power all the way with countersteering, getting sideways completly, and almost hit a building That bitch was sweating like a fucker, he scared himself. The clip is posted on TR, but i think the link is now gone. Pineapple has it somewhere.

I sat and watch these kids do their thing, while i drove my yellow gay ass sohc non-vtak automatic coupe banana Accord....with bodykit. Team15 learned to drift in the rain at my shop. Damn fucking kids. You guys should see Team15's videos.

Then in early 2005, i sold my accord, bought the S14, and it goes from there.

learned the physics of it from off road (cars) and mostly four wheelers and three wheelers, you have to drift those to even turn. In cars on streets???>...I guess it must have been my mustang. It was around 01-02, I never really did more than hang a few turns here and there. Really got into it when I first finished my mk3 supra with a 1jz in 03. in 04 I got my s14 and it was really on from there out. I hooked up with hachibill and terry and we drifted on a weekly basis. We all got better real fast. Bill and I would have contests to see who could get there header to glow whiter. hahahahahahah, AAAHHHHHHHHHHhhhhh, the good ol days, we both had KAs and had to work for our drifts. Doing that for about a year really started to hone my skills, then I got the SR. then Bill got his SR. from there on out we have really pushed each other to up the game all the time. I have to really thank Hachibill for being my mentor quite a bit. He as pushed me to do the things he does, learn and use double apex drifts.....EVERYWHERE, good ol third gear, pure energy behind the wheel.......so on. I know im not the best but I sure damn well try to be. Tracks like ocala is really where I shine, I like lots of combos ans speed.
my style is got to be mostly fast and smooth, perhaps not the best recipe for smoke but IMO is best for me to be consistant.

heh, i sold them that coupe.
i always liked 240's from working on them and driving them, when i worked at acura we always had s14's on the lot, and id drive them around clearwater mall, and slide them a little, having no idea what i was doing really, (this was like 99-00) i owned a DA integra at the time.so then i decided to sell the integra, but wanted an SE_R or s13, se-r's were more in the budget, since i didnt have enough cash for an s13, but couldnt finance one due to age of the car. so se-r it was. by now i had read the super street with slide squad, and loved marks blue coupe, and had alot of buyers remorse, and wished id gotten an s13. i worked somewhere else, but would go test drive customers 240's, s2000's and anthing else rwd and screw around haha.
then in late 04 i wrecked my se-r with no insurance, and had to buy something.
200$ s13 coupe was perfect, so i got that and drove my roomates truck while fixing it, now its nearly perfect, and im happy. and should start autocrossing it and driving drift events soon.

WOW paul...that kinda like my cousin situation..but the exact opposite..he had a S14A..then crashed it..then bought a B14 SE-R

the thing that first got me interested in drifting is riding shotgun in the B14..
and my cousin pulled off some crazy hairpins..n well..that was just fucking awesome..

"how did you start drifting?"
idk...i was in a hurry to go somewhere in the rain..took a sharp corner and fishtailed..
was pretty fun..but scary for me..

i had no idea that 240's existed at all..just until after my cuz wrecked his S14 around 2001..i still didnt know what the hell it was because ive never seen a car that looked pissed off like that..

sorry my comment is somewhat off-topic by kinda answering in a way of "how did u get into 240's?" ...but i guess they are similarly related..
