How many of you have drifted with/without an LSD
Post your experiences, and feelings of difference between the two.
Do not post unless you have not drifted a very similarly setup car with and without an lsd.

ive driven, lsd, open, vlsopend, and welded.
i like lsd the best, it gives you lock only when you want it, clutch down during a spin and you can save your ass. its engages a lot nicer then a welded diff, and encourages crazy flick entrances. feels like you are on ice while sliding. makes a car feel a lot more powerful then it is.
open diff is ok if you are a beginner, it teaches you how to use the cars weight, brakes, and throttle.
vlsd is like open diff that gets stuck sometimes, get rid of it.
welded diff is like lsd that sucks. it requires you to wrestle with the car a lot more to get it to respond. the slide experience with this is a lot more rough, welded diff might be ok on a car with more then 250hp but for the ka it doesnt respond well, compared to lsd. if you are in a spin, your stuck.
sorry its so poorly worded im about to pass out from nyquil

Open diff for me is only fun in the rain, even then it's not absolutely fun, only if you get lucky and have relaly bald tires. open diff sucks.
vlsd sucks also. not positive enough engagement, not anything enough, only spins both tires if you have really pansy weak tires out back that don't grip at all. good in the rain.
welded is fierce, very fierce and harsh in the rain, and always. likes to be violent on and off throttle. very good at teaching delicate balance
clutch type lsd is the best
it does everything perfectly.

I have done Welded Open and Clutch Pack 2 way
Open- What I learned on. Sucked hardcore it was ok for learning but I was never really doing drifting. Throttle control never really affect angle. Tought me how to use weight transer/feint.
Welded- Had to relearn the whole car, Acts completly different, cant full throttle or you can spin out, Open diff doesnt have that kinda problem. But one step closer to a real diff. Took me a while to get the concept of not having to step on the gas to keep the car sliding.
Clutch Pack LSD- Awsome. It helped that I have been on welded so I was semi use it it. daily driving is much better on this because it doesnt make the car understeer as much, and its more predictable. The best part is that if my angle is to much I might save it by clutch in and hope it comes back. Deffinatly save your money for a clutch pack.

I agree with matt and funk.
I had fun with open diff. But I also didnt know what I was missing.
For me lsd means "smooth".
Open diff is hard to keep sideways and likes to snap back at you when you catch grip. I found it kinda scary really. It doesnt inspire confidence.

i recal mattback drifting in a stock ka on a set of neovas... craig you need to go a lot faster in the dry with grippy tires, and grippy tires is better on the rear anyways, more control.
well, the best way to counteract the crappy open diff feeling is to have shit tires, dry rot or whatever..... if ur running at speeds above 45-50 then u need betters tires but should have a lsd anyways above those speeds.
with LSD is really SMOOTH feeling cause the rear grip/sliding is equal through the turn instead of switching around from left to right or not at all haha.
its like the difference between turning the steering wheel at 5 mph with or without powersteering..... LSD makes you more consistent and fluid.
