Drifting and powersliding...
Alright this might be a really stupid question but i dunno. Are powersliding and drifting the same thing? If not then can someone help me out and explain the differences?!?!

not really the same. In drifting you are in a sense "powersliding" once you toss the car into the corner, then you get on the gas and modulate steering, gas, brake, and ebrake if necassary. Its all in how you arive into the slide I guess. Powersliding is entering a corner at a normal speed, with a normal line, and mid apex, nailing the gas to the floor, and countersteering to compensate. Same corner, enter it higher speed, hugging the inside, turn away from the corner to track out, and then quickly turn in and lift off the gas to get the weight to transfer casuing the car to slide, then countersteer and modulate throttle through the turn.

not really effective. drifting is slow. I guess it really depends on what "effective" means to you.

SHOW drift is slow, racing drift, is actually the fastest way around the track, but because is easy to let it swing to much and it eats tires, its not a plausible technique for racing. racing drift is so slight that some people prolly wont say its drifting.
powersilding i would say is a type of drifting. it would be the same as 'power over' technique where only throttle is used, and ur POWER makes you SLIDE. drifting encompasses that and many other techniques as psi mentioned.

The Difference between Drifting / Power sliding / Fish tailing and Burning Out!
This section of our website was created to explain the difference between drifting and other actions like power sliding, fishtailing, and burning out. Many of you who are new to this sport are probably looking for an explanation on what people mean when they say "drifting." How is it any different than power sliding, or even burning out? Is it just a loss of traction, or is it something more? As you keep reading this article you will begin to understand that drifting is THE ultimate exhibition of complete car control. Skills you learn while drifting will help you in almost any road racing type environment you can think of. Any of you who have road raced in the past know the limitations of your tires as you grip through the turns. You've felt that line where traction is about to be lost but the tires are just barely holding on. Get ready to break those limits, cross that line, and enter the world of drifting The goal of drifting is to show complete control of your car while maintaining over steer. Drifting involves navigating a road course while performing controlled slides, or drifts, for the longest possible duration. The difference between drifting and power sliding is that when you are drifting, you are connecting multiple turns in a controlled slide. This is very different from a power slide, which is usually performed while exiting a turn with the next step being to re-gain traction. When you are drifting, the object is not to regain traction. Instead, show how much control you have over the car while maintaining a loss of traction in an over steered state. Even if you are on a straightaway, you should be looking for ways to induce over steer, but stay in control. You know you are drifting when you are entering the turns at much higher speeds than grip road racing, and the car is already sliding sideways before you approach the turn. You are not drifting if you under steer into a turn, and over steer out. You are not drifting if you fishtail and then regain traction. You are not drifting just because your rear tires are burning out. You ARE drifting when you maintain a controlled loss of traction, induced by over steer, through multiple turns. There are basically two types of drifting. The most popular in the public eye is show drifting. Show drifting is performed on a closed road course in a competition format. Whoever can drift the road course the best, and gets scored highest by the judges, wins the competition. This is not a speed or time sport, but more of a style sport scored by multiple judges. Very similar to what you might find at some Olympic events or even the X-Games. The judges usually have an automotive racing background and they are judging you based on multiple categories such as entry angle, entry speed, drift style, overall look, and amount of tire smoke. Each of these categories can be composed by multiple components. For instance, style can include your showmanship to the crowd by putting your arm out the window (to show you only need one hand), your courage for getting extra close to that wall, or your aggressiveness for entering the drift extremely early. Overall look can include things like the appearance of your car, the sound, your overall image, etc. It is recommended that you contact your local event coordinators and ask what their judging criteria is. But some of you won't have local events, and that’s when you might come across race drifting. Race drifting usually takes place in a battle format. One drifter will battle the other drifter in skill and speed. This can happen on a closed road course, but more often than not, it takes place on public mountain roads. Battle format means one drifter starts behind the other drifter and they chase each other performing tandem drifts. The goal for the person in the back is to keep up with the person in front. If the person in front cannot pull away, then the person in the back wins. But if the person in the front is not drifting, then he automatically looses. After one battle, the roles are usually reversed for a rematch. This can go on and on until one driver repeatedly pulls away from the other driver showing he can maintain a faster speed while drifting. Much like street racing, the winner gets nothing more than self gratification. "Ter-Tech" does not support street drifting, but we recognize that it takes place. We encourage everyone who is interested in drifting to support legal drifting events, be it show drifting or race drifting. Keep it safe guys!!
