Yes, it's SUPPOSED to make that much racket...
Ask anyone who has seen me pull up and park at a local meet somewhere and they will tell you that something is wrong with my car.
The crazy loud clunking and chattering and groaning that comes from the rear of my car has to be something binding, some kind of cv joint breaking, or something just isn't right, right?
wrong
Last week I finally had the opportunity to install my NISMO 2-WAY clutch type limited slip differential. This was the unit that I custom built with 14 clutch plates instead of 6, and it is an absolute riot to drive on!
Keep in mind, this is a full blown, 2 way clutch type limited slip with OVER 200 Ft-Lbs of breakaway torque coming out of the axles.
I reccomend Redline 85w140 gear oil in clutch type limited slip differentials, and reccomend that you do the break in procedure that kaaz reccomends in installing all of their differentials.
The break in procedure pretty much describes driving in a figure 8 motion at about 25 miles per hour with the throttle off in the first hjalf of the turn, and on again in the second half of the turn. Let me tell you that right off the bat the clunking wasn't so bad, but once everything seated in, they went from sharp painful POP's to very consitent clunks and groans.
All this noise for less performance than my old welded diff, I thought. Not so when I finally pushed it to it's limits.
The beauty of the 2-way differential , and any differential for that matter is that you have wonderful turn-in and neutral steering. with a solid rear axle, the car always wants to drive straight.
With the amount of breakaway torque being moderately high, the tight corner and slow speed stuff is compromised with this diff. however at speeds of over 25mph, you can't beat it. Drift is insane also, the response of the differential is amazing, and throttle steer is awesome.
So if you are in aparking lot near me, and hear some crazy loud rattle or clunk, don't worry, i Paid good money for that noise to be in my car

I just put my 2-way Cusco RS LSD, two Sat ago! My car sounds horible (clunk) its initiate all the time, it gives almost no slip, And its insane when givin gas! Everybody think there somting breaking in my car! I just let them think that, That way they underestamate me!
It very different driving with the LSD! In normal driving I just leave the clutch in throught the turn so I don't hear all that clunking! It really Sucks parking in reverse, that the clunking is most violent & loud cus of turning at very low speed!
I did the Figure 8's but the snow melted & left a thin layer of dirt on the ground so it did really help! The dirt suck im always losing traction every turn! Now I got to get rid of wheel hoop!
I put MOTUL 90 PA limited slip differential fluid!

Eh, oh well. Still, like hatchibill said, "There's a right and a wrong place"
I liked how you put that, lol good stuff
Well if you had read the post you would notice i said all of the noise is from parking and low speed turns.
you do'nt hear any noise when ' drifting'.
comprehension is your friend!!
