Thumbs up Lakeland Dragstrip Opens Again

Lakeland opens it's gates again starting Sept 6th. It will be open on Thurs from 6-11 and on Sat from 6-12 for test and tune only. Something is better than nothing! At least it's still a drag strip and not a bunch of wharehouses. I live a couple of miles from the track and it will give me a place to go and browse around on those days. For more info and photos of the last V8 race go to:

I doubt the issues are resolved for just test and tune sessions. He has cut down on the staff to 4 ( starter, staging, et shack and tower) and their pay as well. I for one will not work for him and my neighbor the old starter won't do it also unless the money is right. We'll just have to see how it goes.

I doubt the rotory crew will invade the test and tune sessions. Some may come out but when they find out there's no traction, they'll spread the word and won't return. I may be wrong but based on what I've seen in the past, I don't think so!

well good to hear that place isnt gone forever like we were hearing. but then again, like you said, traction there is the same as on the street. its all mis-managed. I wish someone in this area with some money and who actually KNEW how to run a race facility would step up and turn this place around. I also live a few minutes away and used to run my v-8 s-10 out there and even with ladderbars and coilovers and 10" slicks I couldnt get it to hook as hard as it did on the street. not to mention waiting an hour in between passes while they clean the track with a f*cking broom and towel while they have tractors and crap just sitting there. hell, I havent seen them bring the blower out in YEARS, or retreat with VHT after cleaning or a fluid spill. and the rotaries... yeah, nothing more annoying that waiting said hour to run and having to listen to those little bastards the whole time. but atleast it is a legal place to go and cut loose, and its all official, none of the "I didnt know you were on it" or "he didnt wanna play" crap

It's better to have a track with issues than no track at all. As for cleaning equipment, 1 blower, brooms and maybe towels and kittie litter. The tractor belongs to the owner but only allows one person to use it and only if he is there and it's absolutely neccessary. VHT cost to much and is usually thinned to a level that doesn't do much for long.
Anywho, I'll be there next Thurs or Sat to help my son do some tune and test. We won't need traction for what we are going to do so it doesn't matter!
