track day (night) 7
Hey im gonig to run my merc 560 for the first time ever on a track at the track day #7. i really am jsut doing it because im geting my dead cylender fixed wed and i want to know what my 1/4 is. Please dont make fun of me im kind of a newbie to track racing i just dick around on empty roads. anything would help like info on staging i have no clue..i want to lok like i have some clue on what im doing there (which i down other than hitting the gas pedal). thanks. oh, does anyone have a helmet i can borrow or soemthing so i dont have to go buy one? thats the only thing i need even tohugh im probably gonig to be a little slower than 13.99. thanks! see you guys out there!
ok that helped some. I still dont understand staging. i am last on the list so i will have time to watch how others do things. i have to find someone to race too, my car is stock, its aorund 15 sec(with a dead cylender, but that is getitng fixed today). I doubt having the cylender running will take off much time the car weighs a lot.
i have a simpson voyeger helmet rated sa2000. will this work? my dad got it from one of his clients who didnt have money so he started giving us stuff. ill bring it just incase my car is under 14sec
thanks!

Good post Billy, never read that before ...
evo. end3R - make sure you watch a few runs before you jump in the staging lanes so you can get a real feel for what's going on.

These contests are started by means of an electronic device commonly called a Christmas Tree because of its multicolored starting lights. On each side of the Tree are seven lights: two small amber lights at the top of the fixture, followed in descending order by three larger LED lights, a green bulb, and a red bulb.
Two light beams cross the starting-line area and connect to trackside photocells, which are wired to the Christmas Tree and electronic timers in the control tower. When the front tires of a vehicle break the first light beam, called the prestage beam, the pre-stage light on the Christmas Tree indicates that the racer is approximately seven inches from the starting line.
When the racer rolls forward into the stage beam, the front tires are positioned exactly on the starting line and the stage bulb is lit on the Tree, which indicates that the vehicle is ready to race. When both vehicles are fully staged, the starter will activate the Tree, and each driver will focus on the three large amber lights on his or her side of the Tree.
