Default clutch question?

Can't shift into gears now, while rolling, I have to stop the car, shut it off put into gear and drive in that gear only.

The clutch seems to work fine, its the engagement of it is the problem I think.

Is there an adjustment for the clutch cable?

what does that shit inside the clutch pedal do? being I can't see it.

Help..........

heres the deal, pull the pedal up and this releases the arm, and thus adjusts the cable..its seems simple, my problem is the pedal has 2 set of teeth one on the piece holding the cable, and the other holding arm for adjustment. these teeth are slipping, once I adjust it. someone put a piece of wood in it to make the spring stronger, but I can't seem to make that work..

maybe the cable has got longer?

Hold the clutch to the floor start it and instantly the car moves. while the pedal is to the floor.

So the cable became too long?

The car was working today with the wood piece jammed in, now that it came loose ,I have no clutch engagement.
