Going to the darkside. It all started with the Hyundai...
The little ones (matchbox sized stuff) is dirt cheap, from $10-$25 for a cars, and most option parts and stuff will run less than $10.
Now the 1/10th is another story. Just a general idea of what I have invested in the RS4
Rolling chassis $150
Radio $200 (damn worth it, but more than twice what an entry level one would cost)
Electronic Speed control $80
7.2V Battery $15 (I like the cheapies)
Motor $30
Ball Bearings $30
Springs $10
Sway Bars $20
2 spd trans $70
Aluminum shock towers $40 (can't remember for sure might be more)
MIP CVD's (constant velocity drives) $40 for fronts + $40 for rears
Foam bumper and CF plate $16
Trinity Heat Sink $18
Low resistance connectors $5
Tires and wheels $40 (x2 because I have two extra sets)
Bodies $20 + $10 in special lexan bonding paint (x5+ I have a habit of buying new bodies all the time)
Titanium turnbuckles $30 (forgot to include these in mod list before)
I thinks that everything besides the battery charger for the 7.2V packs and the 8AA's needed for the transmitter. Totals to somewhere over 1 grand. Whats more amazing is I haven't really spent much on this hobby since I got the K which was my senior year of HS.
Of course there are a good deal of entry level RTR kits out there that can be had for sub $200 prices with all the stuff needed and even avaiable "hop-up" parts, but its not same as building the kit yourself.
This is not counting the other 3 cars I had/have, miscellaneous pieces, and running gear. So far I have stuck to only keeping one car in running order and its because I progressively moved up until I got the RS4 which is what I wanted (4WD touring). Before that I had two Tamiya kits, and a Parma PSE Viper GTS.
The Viper GTS body on the Parma was sweet and had a opening hood with lexan V10 and was composed of several pieces for more detail. I bought it for that reason but unfortunately something bad happened, I was driving on a deserted road behind my friends house and hit something (couldn't even see what it was) that made the car flip several times. The body was scratched and damaged so that it would never be the same. The body itself was only sold with the kit so I gave up on the car because the body pretty much made it, the chassis was not more than a plate with a servo, battery and motor attached.
As you can see I have many stories and can go on and on, I have more history with RC cars than real ones, and I'd love to get back into the hobby like I was before but its either this or the full size car
The new micro RC technology out is like a RC revival for me, now I can still enjoy my RC hobby but on a smaller, cheaper scale

Got the EVO and motor today. The EVO is pretty squirrely on linoleum, and so is the GTR now with the new motor
Oh boy now I can drift, someone save me
