During the week following Sunday’s TA2 presented by AEM series Round 3 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Trans Am officials promoted Marc Miller (No. 40 Prefix Stevens-Miller Dodge Challenger) from second to first.

Trans Am Chief Steward Dorsey Schroeder investigated a lap two overtaking move by race-winner Thomas Merrill (No. 81 Big Diehl Racing Ford Mustang) on the No. 92 of Scott Lagasse Jr. in Turn 2. Typically, the overtaking driver who failed to complete a safe pass would be required to give back the position. But in this incident, Lagasse wound up off course, hitting the Turn 3 curb and breaking his SLR/Fields Racing/M1 Racecars Camaro’s right-front suspension. He was unable to continue.

Unable to give back a position, Merrill was served with a post-race 40s penalty, equivalent to an in-race drive-through, which moved him back to third. However, the disqualification of Dillon Machavern’s No. 77 Ford Mustang (which failed post-race tech due to a wing setback) moved Merrill up to second.

Miller grabs Laguna Seca TA2 pole in shortened session

“Any time you can finish on the podium is a pretty good day,” said Miller, from Holland, Mich., after learning he was the winner. “We led from pole and controlled the race early. While we did end up third on track, sometimes things happen in scrutineering or when the series reviews on-track action that changes the order. I have been on the receiving end of a tough call keeping me out of a solid result, so it is hard for me to accept this as a win; but I will certainly take the points. Our eyes are set on a championship and making no mistakes this season. We will keep this same approach heading into the tough Lime Rock and Detroit GP races schedule ahead.”

Ethan Wilson (No. 25 BC Race Cars/Western Grinding Service Camaro) was promoted to third.

Miller now leads the season-long championship with 90 points followed by Wilson in second, heading into Round 4 at Lime Rock Park for the Memorial Day Motorsports Festival, May 24-27.

So when you run off course while getting passed, the officials blame the guy who passed you.

Maybe someone should blame themselves for not having a decent handling car.
--------------------------

The article does not say that the overtaking car hit anyone.
So why blame the guy who did the passing without hitting anyone?
