Door panels lifting off window edge

Door panels lifting off window edgeSO I have a 2014 RT and recently the door panel has been raising off the edge of the window on the drivers side.

I'm in phoenix so it is probably warping from the heat. I took it to the dealer today but it is out of warranty due to the high milage.

I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone and how did you fix it.

havent seen it with the Chargers yet but I have seen it with some of the older Sebrings. Here is a link to a How to on the sebring forum to repair it. It works well

Before trying any fix, first make sure nothing is causing the door panel to lift up. Is your door aligned correctly, has a door edge guard or aftermarket sill plate hitting the door panel?

If you can fix it, great, if not one can be had from ebay, they start at around $90.

Did the same on my 2015 Charger, In Phoenix as well. Asked the dealership about it, said they would have to replace the entire panel at a cost of $750!!Rich

Man I was just about to post about this. Hopped in my '16 SXT yesterday and my front passenger door panel decided it didn't want to be on the car anymore. Then checked and my driver side is just starting to show signs of curling up. Guess this is a common-ish problem? Luckily I'm still under warranty so I'll see what the dealership has to say tomorrow.

Just an update...made it up to the dealership today, service manager was hardly shocked. Said mine was not the first door panel issue he's seen, though mostly had seen it on '14 Chargers. I'm just an overachiever I guess. He said the other common one is the trim piece between the dash and console, he's done a dozen of those. He recommended making sure there was no sign of warping on that prior to hitting the end of my 36K mile warranty.

Overall a great experience and one of the most helpful and least defensive service managers I've ever encountered. Had to order the door panel which is unfortunately backordered, which he said could mean 3 days or 3 months. Guess I'll be living with it for a while. FYI for those out of warranty, he said the door panel is $714 and some change.

So yesterday I had to grab something from my wife in the car. She rolled her window down and I saw this same thing on the passenger door. I checked the drivers door and it is just starting on that one. This car originated in Mesa, Az. and spent a year on the lot before I moved it to a more temperate climate. I just turned over the 10K mile mark. I will be running thru the dealership fast lane tomorrow to get the ball rolling on replacement. I would go with the self repair, but I have enough warranty coverage to last me until I'm dead! This is on my '17 SXT. I'll update after my visit with the dealership.

Door panels are on back-order. I was told not to be surprised if it took 6 months or more to get them in. Class action lawsuits are typically expensive and related to safety as well. Good luck getting a team of lawyers to go after FCS for a few ticked off owners because of a

cosmetic issue. There have been several people who have posted a solution to gluing the panel back down. If mine wasn't under warranty, I would trim a little foam, glue it back down and be happy with it. If class action did nothing for all the baked and pealing clear coat of the '80's and '90's GM products, you aren't going to get much action on a few door panels.

Max Care is the lifetime B to B warranty. I started the warranty claim on the door panels, but was told they are backordered and it might be 6 months getting them. That was about 2 months ago. I haven't followed up yet, need to. The car is still so much fun to drive, I'm enjoying that too much to notice and be bothered by the panels.

The problem is there is a thin layer (3/16") of foam under the heavy vinyl that expands a lot with high heat. I had to redo my previous repair after the car sat out in the 100F heat all day last Thursday: the foam swelled up and popped my Gorilla Glue loose. I took an Exacto knife and removed 1/2" wide by 5" long strip of the foam from the top edge of the panel then glued the heavy vinyl back down. Seems to be holding up fine.

You can do that or go through the hassle of having the entire $650 door panel replaced.

This is happening on my Chysler 300SI live in Fl and this started happening to my 2015 Chrysler 300S. I've hit 53k miles so the bumper to bumper is out of warranty, BUT I have asked Class Action Lawsuits to see if they can start a class action for those of you who are getting denied the repairs due to being out of warranty. My dealership knows me and I told them that if they did not repair my vehicle,

I'd write reviews on Google, Yelp, their website, and any other website until my situation was resolved. I don't understand how Chrysler/Dodge would even think about turning a customer away for this type of issue. Do they assume we're bored and have started to just peel away our door panels because we have nothing better to do than to sit in the 100

degree heat and destroy our cars? I've attached this link on the class action form I filled out also. Good luck to all!! Don't take no for an answer, regardless of warranty! I've learned that when kindness doesn't get you what your owed, then bad reviews seem to be the next best thing, especially for major dealerships.

What Class Action form? When the passenger side front door panel started warping on my 2015, I went in, the service department did their thing, 3 months later, new panel installed, no fuss, muss or bother. It doesn't affect safety or performance and while annoying there are much bigger issues that could be happening. Suppliers make mistakes, FCA is working to fix this by getting a supplier that can do it right. In the mean time, get the service department working on getting a replacement or if you don't want to pay what a dealership will charge hit a body shop or your favorite mechanic and do it aftermarket or DYI.
