Default Magnum SB vs Old SB Mounts

Does anyone know how close the engine mounts are to each other? I always thought the magnum blocks were the same for the most part. But Jeff #2 says he thinks the mounts are diff. Schumacher doesnt make magnum -> pre-mag mounts.. so either its not needed, or people would never do that swap.

?

Looking at the mount on my truck compared to the spool mount on my '73 block....They look the same. The magnum block casting is mostly the same, traditional SB bellhousings will bolt up, the mounts appear to be the same, however the head/intake, etc. bolt patterns are different.

My $.03

thanks though. I did some research too and found about the same. The only diff was the mounts themself. The position should all be the same.

i found this out a day or two ago. The mag block has both old LA ears, and the new mag mounts. I didnt update the thread though. THanks 808.

putting a mag into an old body is easy, putting a LA into a mag chasis is a little harder, but not too difficult i hear. Besides, schumacher makes mounts. I believe the mounts go to the frame, not the old mounts... so i could just air chisle off the mag mounts and put on the schumacher ones.

the schumacher mounts are $400 also... so maybe if i can find a 90-91 318 dak at a yard, i'll cut those mounts off. Also, and lori knows this.. look for one of those daks for me and snag me the oil pan
