<<<<< some cars have gone close to 500 hp without breaking the balance shaft chain, but I wouldn't reccommend it to anyone else. I considered myself lucky that it never broke with that much hp. It will save you headache in the future to just go ahead and get it out of there

I made 563whp with the stock block..

Once i built the motor i removed the balance shaft and chain.. big difference! the car will rev quicker...

if you are not planning on going big turbo or anything like that.. I would just leave it alone.. If you just want a faster rev get a clutch with an aluminum flywheel.

Its true. And people have seen 10-15hp from it.

I don't disbelieve it, but, again; No one has offered any real proof.

remove the balance shaft if your aimnig in high power #'s. it is a big and heavy mass on the bottom of the motor. if you do remove it you will be fine but at higher hp #'s you should have the entire rotating assembly balanced by a machine shop to be safe( my old neon had this done) just make sure to block the oil hole or your motor wont get any oil pressure. there not hard to remove and i can see it freeing up a few hp (not sure about 10 but easily 4-5)

I never had an issue not running one. I couldn't even tell after I removed it. I just cut/broke the chain and left all the assembly in there so my oil level on the dip stick stay'd correct.

Its good for 8-12whp depending on what kind of RPM your motor makes power at.

The rotating assembly isn't balenced with the "balence shafts" so removing the chain doesn't do anything to the balence of the motor, its just like removing power steering or an A/C compressor.
