Default dodge daytona engine questions

i need some info on a 87ish dodge daytona. its originally a turboz model but it has a shelby tubo engine in it. are there any major differece between the two? any other info would be greatly appreciated..thanx

Try turbododge.com for some expert advise. If it's a true Shelby GLHS type engine, then there are some differences from the standard turbo II engine.

pay attention too, valve cover swaps were common on these older cars, luckily it's all well documented online, with easy identifiers like 2 piece manifolds and the such.

EDIT,
In 1987, the Daytona was restyled externally, and featured pop-up headlights. New in 1987 was a Shelby Z trim level with an available Turbo II (175 hp - 200lb-ft) intercooled version of the 2.2 L Chrysler K engine, as well as a heavy-duty A555 transaxle with Getrag gears. The Shelby Z also featured numerous suspension upgrades, including a larger diameter front sway bar and rear disc brakes.

so look for the rear discs, if it's a real CS.

But In my honest opinion the coolest version of this engine was found in the thankfully forgotten Chrysler TC. they took a 2.2 TII and had cosworth build a bespoke head, Mahale Pistons, Crower Rods.



And to think it all started with the lowly K car.

Actually the head is by Maserati, and all 2.2/2.5 Chrysler (turbo cars) had Mahle pistons cast or forged depending on application, and the same "TII" rod used throughout the production years, regardless of displacement.

The rods do change here and there depending on model level and year, but none had a "crower" rod persee, or anything of that nature.

They are very strong, just as a standard 84-85 "heavy" rod, or the 87 + TII, or TIII, or TIV rod (all the same). Good for well over 450 WHP levels and about 7K-7400 rpms before they start to come apart. Luckily most 8V head guys aren't that high, although there are a few of us out there.
