the alternator in my girls 96 stratus died but she just kept on drivin till she got home ( with the battery light on) and the car overheating ... ohh well i replaced it with a new alternator and belt but after i put everything back together and took it for a test drive ... the car is stuck in second gear i dunno whats wrong with it , i checked the fluid and it seems to be good ( its an automatic btw) ... do u guys have any suggestion ?

 

help me out cuz i dont want to take it to the shop if i can take care of it myself .....

 

Maybe the govenor is stuck. Try rolling about 3-5mph and slam it into park. It sounds crude, but it sometimes frees them up.

If not a sticking gov piston, the O/D trans have a soliniod pack on the side of the tranny that is a very common problem.

i have the same problem except with a 4 speed. i can't get it outa 2nd gear...so i basically start in second and go up to 35 and thats it...btw its a 1984 dodge ram 100. if u find out whats wrong with urs leme kno

 

sounds like a input or out put speed sensor keepin the trans in limp. take it to the dealer is the check engine light on? also the trans computer tcm might need to be quick learned by the dealer try it out.

 

not engine ligth on ... im just afraid of takin it to the dealer since they charge so much for everything they do .... i ma take it to a shop tomorrow and see what they have to say ...

 

they said it is the tranny it has 2 be replaced .. thanks 4 ur help
