Default if it is so imposible to drop in an A588...

Then why am I Driving a '97 gs with an A588 under the hood?

my roommate jumped a belt on the freeway. the jumped belt broke when it got between another pulley and pulled off that belt too. leaving the vehicle without power steering, or power from alt. water pump was safe because that is drivin by the timing belt
when i was doing the initial damage assessment i saw some little things that were a little odd. this pushed me to check up on the block number. to my surprise, A588. block cast number (4667662)
the car bein new to me by about 2 months i never really looked into it until now (daily driver).
the more i look into it the more conflicting info i get.
either way it boils down to the cast # says its an A588. the exhaust manifold in the front, intake in the rear.

in summation do i have an A588?

sorry to steal any thunder from op.
