PT Cruiser
Hey all I am new here and have searched and found no answers. So here is the question. I have a 2001 PT Cruiser and the timing belt broke on me. I took the old one out and put a new one in. It does not run. on the top pulley's I put the timing marks straight across but they did not point at each other because the pulley on the left is higher than the one on the right. Did i screw this up or is this right??? It sounds the same as when the belt was broke. These are non interfear motors right??? Please Help
Well I know on the 2.4, you have to install the belt with one tooth slightly below the other, then when u take up the slack, the belt will pull the gear and the lines will line up.
If someone doesnt have your answer, I suggest grabbing a FSM ( should be able to find on the net).
They are a PITA to do.

sounds like you installed it 180 degrees off then, did you make sure that the arrows pointing up were pointing up when you installed the belt? also you have to make sure that the timing marks line up after the belt is tensioned and motor has been turned a few times as well, if its off by much more than a tooth it wont run....and if it runs but lopes, its not timed right....yes all 2.4s are non interference motors
