theres two or three holes for the started that bolt to the tranny...the dul pin would either be on the top one or the bottem one...they do tend to loosen up and move when u remove the starter so when u bolt it back on its crooked or not seated right...just check it out to see if its strait and if u bolt the starter back on and it sits flush against the tranny then there shouldnt be a proplem but if there is a gap somewhere then it means something isnt linin up and it could be the proplem...its like putting a tranny against a motor basically..u have to line the dul pins up or u wil snap the case...same sanario....

when putting the starter up to mount i did notice a small gap before bolting in , but what your saying is it should sit flush to tranny before any tightening correct ????

yeah it should be a very close fit without even bolting it down..but when u bolt it down just make sure its going on strait and just look around the started to make sure its sitin flush..there should be no gap between the starter and the tranny at all unless u took off the dust sheild but i dout it..another thing is when u bolt it down and get ready to start it take like 3 or 4 sparkplugs out of the motor so it can spin alot easier, this way u can test it to make sure it turns over and then put the plugs back in and try it...also u sure u have the identical starter that came out of it..they didnt give u one with a larger cone or something...compare the two to make sure there the same..
