The 4000k 8000k 10000k is the brightness of the bulb. I personally wont go over a 4000k for a couple of reasons. One being that they are just too damn bright for oncomming traffic, and they can melt headlamp lenses and burn up switch's. JMO. But I'm sure a few people will jump in and tell how they run the 10k's all night long with no problems.

4000k is white

8000k is blue

10000k is purple

its the color temp (in kelvin) of the ballast.

They all pull the same amount of power and won't melt anything.

4300k(white) is the brightest HID temp & anything above that from 8000k+ isn't as effective even though they burn at a higher kelvin...all the high-end & most popular car manufacturers don't use anything above 6000k kits...the most commonly chosen HID kit is the 8000k kit, simply because many prefer its blue color projection...i'm currently running a Oem Lexus 4300k kit w/ casper shields for a proper light cut-off...
