no, cam timing remains the same, if you are worried about the timing being dead on, you can always index your cams

it remains the same because i didnt touch the cam angle sensor right. oh and does it change spark timing.

the reason im asking is because this idiot is trying to tell me this because suposedly his saturn which has a chain does this...he says.

well if you take a half inch off the head, then yeah, it would, but "decking" is hundreds or thousandths of an inch, not enough to make any real difference, just enough to true the surface, it would take quite a bit of material missing to change the cam timing, and at that point you would get valvetrain interference before cam timing changes, this is true of any overhead cam engine...I can see that with a chain it might cause tensioner problems(though the tensioner would still take up the slack if you ask me)

decking or shaving does actually change cam timing in Saturn engines. It retards it slightly.

hmm, hundredths of an inch retards cam timing? well, it is interesting to know anyway, but even so I cant imagine that its going to retard it more than 1/4 of one degree if decked to the max...are we talking the SOHC or DOHC Saturn engine btw?
