i just dont get why the so called shitboxes became so popular. everyone use to put down neons forever. all the real neon owners for years knew about dropping a stratus 2.4 into there 1st gen and adding a turbo to make a fast car but still no one would touch them or respect them. so just because dodge mass produced a car which the real tuners have been working on for years there all of a sdden sought after?people are like srt-4's arent neons but take the front bumpers off a 04 neon and an 04 srt and switch them they fit perfect. most srt items can work on 1st gen neons, installing a turbo timer all the wires are the same colors and in the same places(for example). all these people are saying say no to rice. but with an srt all there geting is an 3rd gen neon with srt body-kit and a very up-graded engine.just a small rant. by far im not saying a regular neon is better or even close to an srt-4 but its annoying hearing people talking about there srt-4 and not even having a clue about neons.

 

actally the 1st gen RTs and ACRs are as good as the SRT4 I think, except in the engine department, but I know how you feel, I have loved neons for years, more than a match for any equivalent honda or other NA sport compact, although I have taken full advantage of SRT parts IE, oil pump,water pump, etc for my 2.4, what really gets me is most of the neon techies(I say most here) are not SRT4 owners....I was on SRT4forums the other day and I was looking at all these newbie posts by new owners who think they know more than loyal mopar fans.....it gets on my nerves too, yes I love the SRT4, but I love the rest of the neon family too...then on floridaneons.org I was reading a post about a statewide SRT4 meet...as if regular neons arent good enough to for them(ps, this is not about most SRT4 owners here, just about some SRT4 owners in general and how they, and the rest of the sport compact world in general is condescending toward non-SRT4 neons in general, regardless of mods) I mean, when I talk cars with someone I'm always respectful of their ride, whether its a toyota tercel or a 429 mustang, I love cars in general and hate disparaging remarks like "but its still a neon" especially when its coming from someone who drives a 17 or 18 second car

 

ive had a ACR since 96 and love it. ran 14's and out handled most cars. i think the first gen neons and the performance stuff is on its way out the door becouse of the srt. SCCA finally gave it a chance in IT so hopfully that will keep the aftermarket alive

 

the aftermarket is alive and well as long as you can swap a 2.4 you have access to the SRT stuff for engine....SRT 4 suspension components(IE coilover spring sets) will fit as well if you upgrade to 2nd gen hubs, I have no fear of the aftermarket dying out anytime soon for my 1st gen, now if only i could say the same for my Fiero....

 

This is to be expected esp when the car was is pretty dran cheap for the power it packs. When I got my car, hardly anyone knew what it was....nowadays,
I see all these ricer crossover fags on the road driving srt4's and they look over at me with the I got a 'fast' car attitude........sad thing is that they have no clue...

Yeah I hate it, too. It seems like everybody just wants to dismiss it as a Neon, and say oh well, regardless of power, its still just a neon. Oh fucking well. I'm proud I drive a Neon, and I could care less of what any of you assholes think. I'm sick of the Srt bitches too, that just ride around stock thinking they are hot shit when they bought the fucking car fast. I hate it. Yep, I drive a Neon, and I might not be able to kill your v8 shitbox, but I'll keep up with you, and I'd much rather take a Neon than that anyday. And I'm in a n/a 2.0 motor. So suck a dick haters.

 

I pretty much agree with what has been said. The SRT-4 owners are their own group for the most part probably because many of them are not real Dodge or Neon enthusiasts. It is annoying that most of them don't acknowledge older Neons or give them the respect they deserve, but thats the story with most other Dodges too.

Having an old school Turbo Dodge, I have already become used to getting no respect from others. I don't make any effort to argue my points with others, eventually they will learn the hard way.
