Most of us love motor racing, but the dream of lining up on the grid isn’t exactly a cheap one. There are engines to build, mechanics to hire, cars to repair, and any number of unforeseeable financial burdens. So what can you do on a budget?
Well, build a time-attack car. Meet Lee. Lee took a Lotus Elise and built it into a hardcore track-weapon. A commercial vehicle designer by trade, Lee works to customize cars like mini-buses and ambulances for specific needs, but got into kitting-out his Lotus as an outlet for when rules don’t apply.


Lee plans to enter the Lotus in Time Attack UK Championship events, where – like all time-attack events – the goal is to bang in the fastest lap possible within your allotted track time.
Luckily for Lee, there aren’t twenty other classes out there trying to run him down. If you crash the car, it’s your fault, but more importantly Lee doesn’t need to worry about emptying his bank account if he crashed into another car, or two.

The Lotus itself sports custom Exige bodywork, wider tires and wheels to increase mechanical grip, a turbocharger sucking air into the Elise 1.8-liter four-cylinder, a sequential gearbox, as well as the obvious rear wing, front splitter, and aerodynamic side sills.
