If the car is lowered now, why change it?
Someone had a suspension question:
I bought the car lowered and it doesn't have coil overs or lowered springs so the last option is there cut. i would like to keep the car lowered but i seen were you was saying u can cut the stock springs the right way. so my ? is if i go to the junk yard and get a pair of stock springs how much would u charge to cut them and install them. the car is a 94 Honda accord it has 18" rims on it now but looking to go with 17"s when i get some extra $. so i want them to b cut to look right for the 18"s but even better with the 17" inch rim if that's possible. ((i hope what i said makes sense))
how much to cut a new stock spring?
how much to install them? so they look some what decent on a 18" but will look better on a 17"?

My answer:
If the car is lowered now, why change it?
The best way to alter the springs is when I can carefully measure them on the actual car. That way there is no double work to remove current springs, then install junk yard springs, then carefully measure, then remove junk yard springs, alter them, then install them for real. Double work is not economical.
The best time to alter springs is with the rims and tires that you plan to use already on the car. I have never messed up a car, and setting the suspension for now, when the rims are about to change is usually not a good idea. Other people butcher the springs and then tell others that their car is screwed up and cutting springs can't be done.
I'm the only one on TR who knows how to carefully measure a car's suspension and modify springs without the
suspension getting beat up, without the springs flopping around loose, without the shocks getting blown out and without the tires being eaten.
If the car is lowered now, why change it? Is it messed up?
If you have 18's on it now, I would like to look at it (no charge) to measure a couple things and understand what looks good to you, as a guideline for when you have 17's on it.-Bob
