Default Coilover questions

Does anyone have any experience with K-Sport Kontrol coilovers or D2 Racing RS coilovers?

I am looking into these two options for my car (10' Sonata V6 Limited Edition)

Any input anyone can give me is appriciated. Ive never had a car lowered on coils so this is all new to me.

Thanks!

Chris

Both are entry point coilovers. Both will do the job of lowering your car.
As of a 3 or 4 years ago they were made in the same factory but were badged with different names.

I'm going to move this to the suspension forum.

Thanks for the move! How are they as far as performance goes? Are you familiar with the quality of the ride, or which would have a better quality ride?

Those and Megan and a few others all use shocks made in the same factory, from what I understand. The rest comes down to the details of what hardware comes with the kit and spring rates.

I've had good luck with K-Sports on my car and have done extensive competition in another car on K-Sports. No complaints. They're quite streetable with the shocks set near soft. I only got sick of mine after a year of running rear springs that were 3x stiffer than what came with the kit... can't blame them for that.

Like any other coilover kit, SETUP is important. If you set them too low and/or don't set the shock length correctly, ride quality and handling will suffer. If you don't get too greedy with your ride hight (by setting them too low) and set everything up properly with good alignment and learn how to adjust the shocks, you can have good street ride quality and excellent handling.

If you can find spring rates for the kits (good luck, can be hard to find for some of them), for a FWD car, you want the one with the highest REAR spring rate relative to the front. Most street kits tend to stiffen the front more than the rear, thus increasing the understeer bias of the car. More rear spring rate decreases the understeer... but at the expense of a little bit of ride quality.

I've never run either of them, so thanks for the input Loren. I think you make a great point about people getting greedy. Most track cars aren't "slammed" to the ground.

Chris have you thought about running Eibach Sport cup springs, they lower the car a good amount and ride very nice.

Chris, do you know the spring rates?

I am a K-sport and D-2 dealer and can hook you up.. as far as quality, they are equal, do you like Orange or Purple also I deal in BC racing, which is another. Very similar kit. but not available for your application.. I feel K-sport is a little easier to deal with on their warranty. but you should never need to use it.

call me 813-333-1100 and I'll match whatever price you find. and no shipping since I'm here in tampa.

Excellent feedback. I do not know the spring rates Roadracer, i spoke with a k-sport rep and he said the best spring rate to get is what ever one comes with the kit and adjusting spring rates can cause a major impact on ride quality.

treekiller - what do you charge to install and setup ride height? Ive got some pretty solid quotes from other members and a personal friend of mine ranging from 80-100$ total.

You can most likely install them yourself, it really isnt a daunting task, it may take you a few times to get the ride height where you want it.
