On my way home from work tonight I was crusing at about 80 or 90 across the HF bridge to make good time. About a half mile ahead is a group of cars. I see them as Im coming over the hump. Suddenly one of them appears to change lanes out of control flies across all four lanes slams into the wall on the far right then bounces off and proceeds to flip and roll back across to the left a few times before coming to a stop in the far left lane. I couldnt believe my eyes.

I was on the cell with 911 instantly and within 45 seconds I came upon the wreckage. Glass and paper where everywhere. And one unconsious bloody driver was in the car that flipped. Holy shit. A couple people were pulled over and getting out of their cars. I felt so fucking helpless. In the last year Ive seen two fatal accidents on the HF bridge. I hope this isnt the third.

 

I cant imagine how scary that must have been! Ive stopeed for a few accidents that have happened near me but never anything that sounded as bad as that one.

 

OMG - I just saw the story on the news! It was a Plymouth Fury and something that looked like a GMC Jimmy or a Chevy Blazer. The Blazer type vehicle went OFF OF THE BRIDGE and the driver died. He was apparently on the phone with his wife at the time who heard it all happen...

 

It was an old car. Plymouth something I think. I just caught the news on TV. It turns out that there were two vehicles involved. What I saw flipping over from a half a mile back wasnt that car but was actually a SUV. It went over the side and ended up in the bay. The news report said the car hit the SUV causing it to go out of control and flip over. I didnt realize that it went over the side. Thats the third fatal accident Ive seen in a little over a year on the HF alone.

Damn Jimmy you must see some bad stuff fairly often in your line of work. Im not used to it. When I see cars flipping over in front of me it just freaks me out.

I just noticed your second reply Denise. Yeah I didnt realize it was two vehicles until I saw the news. Im still freaked out about seeing all that.

 

i wouldnt say you ever get used to itbut you learn to deal with it and just go with the flow of the call.

when i was younger me and my mom used to go on x-mas eve and drive around and look at x-mas lights. well in 89 we were doing this and was having a great time. we made our way around riverside drive and back up to manatee ave and was hanging a left where the old publix is. well we look over in the parking lot and see what seems to be a cutlas supreme coming across the lot at a very high rate of speed. next thing you know he collides head on with the palm trees that are in the corner of the parking lot closest to us which is only about 90 feet. we pulled into the lot and got out and so did he he sat on the curb and talked to my mom for about 45 secs then fell over. by the time ems got there he was DOA. from the reports he was traveling at a rate of 65mph and when he collided witht he trees he shattered every bone in his upper body and the only reason he got out and talked to my mom was fromt he adrenialine rush he had left in his body. and just so you know he was drivign drunk as well and to top it all off his wife tried to sue my mom for pulling him out of the car which she said killed her husband which was later shot down from the coroners reports that he was dead on impact. and every year at x-mas time i think about it and the family he left behind just because he couldnt but the bottle down.
