Default Fun news with my dad's shop...

Many of you saw my thread of the new building that my dad bought and we renovated to move his business. Well the first 5-6 months were rough. The purchase of that location and the move and all the costs associated with completely revamping the old worn out dirty building was huge. My parents had been taking money out of their savings(what little was left) to pay their employees even though there was no work coming in. My dad did not want to have his employees go unpaid and without a job. Luckily all that has passed and for the last couple months my dad has been turning away about 4-5 cars a day becuase he cannot keep up.

The move was rough but it has finally paid off. Pretty much all of our old customers have found us and we have made many more new friendships/customers of the local area. All of our debt has been cleared and the only money owed is the property loan.

I realized today my dad finally completed what he always wanted to do. Own and operate an honest shop to help people and their cars. Half of our customers come there to just talk to my parents for advice with family, life and finances even when their car is fine. I have even caught some of the delivery drivers almost in tears just having someone to talk to(my mom).

And finally the reason for this post was the tampa tribune called us today and let us know that we had been voted for one of the best shops in tampa and we are gonna be featured some time in late july. It may not be much to some of you guys but when I see what my dad started out with(homeless and supporting his mother and siblings since he was 9 and being the only to have a degree[engineering]) and what it took him 58 years to accomplish I wish to be so successful and have that same drive to succeed. So yea, sorry about the emo post I just wanted post up about being proud of my dad and this is the only group that is mature enough to understand my post. He has done good and I just wanted to share.

Kudos to you and your family. Honest people/businesses are becoming a rarity these days.

Glad to hear your parents came out ahead. Dipping into their savings to support the shop was a pretty huge risk and I'm sure they must feel damned relieved at this point. I Hope things continue on their current track and your parents are able to retire in style.
